Wind Turbines

Many UK farms could generate their electrical energy requirements on site by harnessing the power of a small scale wind system. Microgeneration sized systems are generally up to 50 kW installed power, allowing farmers to reduce their energy costs and carbon footprint. In addition, installation of a wind turbine protects from increasing energy costs, generates a new revenue stream from the Government feed in tariffs or ROC (Renewable Obligation Certificates) entitlements. Producing renewable energy also helps avoid the cost of climate change levy.

Technical advice - we understand the farming industry and provide technical advice about the suitability of a wind turbine system to ensure that it will meet both the present and the future requirements of your farm. There are three key components required for a successful small wind turbine installation – wind speed, grid connection and location – and our experts will help you with every stage of the process. The first step is to carry out an initial feasibility study to ensure there is sufficient wind. If we receive a positive result we then conduct a detailed assessment of your site and business, including wind speed, grid connection, location and future plans. We then establish the size and suitability of a wind turbine for your particular set of circumstances.

Planning permission - this is currently required for all wind turbines and is part of our inclusive package. Our specialists will prepare your planning application for you and deal with any issues that may arise throughout the planning process.

Grants - we can advise on the availability of wind turbine grants in your area and prepare any grant application for the installation cost to the appropriate funding authority. This application will include the business case, payback periods and the technical information to support the grant funding application.

Additional income - in addition to reducing your own energy costs and carbon footprint, significant extra income can be earned from your ROC entitlement or feed in tariff and by exporting any surplus energy to the National Grid. We explain all this in clear-cut terms and will liaise with electricity companies to negotiate the best deals for you. We can also arrange maintenance of your turbine.

The E-CO2 Project aims to make a complicated procedure very simple in order that more farmers can enjoy the benefits from producing their own energy whilst simultaneously reducing their carbon footprint.  This is especially pertinent at a time when the agricultural industry is under the spotlight for its CO2 output.
